Name and how long you have been in the industry

Randi Ortega – 10 years in the industry and at ZRG

How did you get into the industry? Anything that drew you in?

My journey in this industry began unexpectedly when my girlfriend needed help posting items on eBay and taking photos of medical equipment. While she eventually moved on from the job, I was drawn to the industry and the folks at ZRG. I decided to stay and explore how I could contribute, leading to a journey of self-discovery and professional growth.

What milestones or contributing factors helped elevate you to where you are today?

ZRG Medical has been instrumental in my growth and education in this industry. They have allowed me to explore roles such as ISO and quality management, operations management, and logistics. This experience has instilled confidence in my ability to handle business management effectively. CMIA San Diego has also helped me contribute to the industry by providing a place to serve the community and be involved. I am in my 4th year serving as CMIA secretary for this chapter.

What roadblocks did you have to overcome?

To me, roadblocks are growth opportunities. I like to use “roadblocks” to improve myself. I have struggled to find my way in this industry, figuring out my strengths and how to apply them to my career better. I’ve developed the skills to handle myself professionally, especially in challenging situations with difficult personalities.

What do you feel makes a great leader in this industry?

Authenticity and Honesty make a great leader, no matter what industry. Another great quality in a leader is the ability to listen. People are intuitive; they can feel when they are being heard and acknowledged.

What advice do you have for the other women in HTM?

Whatever you do, don’t give in to imposter syndrome. You belong here, are worthy, and are precisely where you are supposed to be.

Make friends and connections, especially with women, because you will find, like I have, that we are all here to help and lift each other up.
