Name and how long you have been in the industry:

Rachel Murray, 7 years in the dynamic HTM world!

Short background bio – How did you get into the industry? Anything that drew you in?

While completing my marketing degree at the University of Cincinnati, I began a marketing internship at J2S Medical. The company’s warm and supportive culture immediately drew me in, but it was also the vast potential for growth and opportunity within the HTM industry that kept me around.

What milestones or contributing factors helped elevate you to where you are today?

J2S offered a fantastic learning experience. From a marketing intern, I learned more about the sales side of the business and became an account executive. Now, I am in a sales manager role. My journey has shown the importance of networking and involvement. I served as the social media chair for the Indiana Biomedical Society and held two terms as Secretary of the Clinical Engineering Association of Illinois. Building a solid network is crucial in this field.

What roadblocks did you have to overcome?

The Biomed industry has a learning curve, and building product knowledge for insightful client and partner conversations took some dedication during my first couple of years. Additionally, I faced a personal and professional loss recently with the passing of my incredible mentor, Sarah Stem. Her guidance and friendship has been deeply missed.

What do you feel makes a great leader in the industry?

While the HTM industry is rooted in tradition and established practices, I believe great leaders are those who leverage this knowledge while embracing innovation. They understand the value of challenging the status quo and fostering a culture that encourages fresh ideas.

What advice to you have for the other women in HTM?
