Name and how long you have been in the industry

Desaray Reyes and I’ve been in the industry: since 2023

How did you get into the industry? Anything that drew you in?
Hello, my name is Desaray Reyes, and I am 20 years old. I am currently studying at St. Philip’s College, where I am in my fourth semester, pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering in the medical field. This dream was inspired at a very young age by my father, who attended college to become a biomedical engineer. Growing up, I watched him work with electronics, taking them apart, fixing issues, and restoring them. As his only child, I was always eager to observe and ask numerous questions. As I got older, my father started working for a wheelchair mobility company, where I witnessed the joy and happiness he brought to people, especially children and the elderly. Later, he transitioned to working for Philips Medical Equipment, and I often accompanied him to work. He would show me the large machines, explain how they operated, and teach me how to identify and troubleshoot issues. These experiences solidified my passion for biomedical engineering. Despite facing negativity and discouragement from others who doubted my capabilities due to my gender, I remained determined to pursue my dream. I chose my classes and embarked on my career path with great enthusiasm. Helping people and potentially saving lives through this profession is incredibly fulfilling for me.
